  • Missing ridge caps and a bent drip edge

Signs of hail damage

  • Dark, soft bruises on asphalt shingles, or cracks that show the mat
  • Granule loss, with granules piled in the gutters and at the downspouts
  • Dents in roof vents, gutters, flashing, and downspouts

Signs of an ice dam

  • Thick icicles along the gutters and eaves, which the state's MIREADY guide says can mean an ice dam

Signs inside the house

  • Daylight in the attic

  • New ceiling stains after heavy rain

A tarp the same day keeps out the next rain or snowmelt and leaves the storm damage on the roof for your insurance adjuster to see. DIFS, Michigan's insurance department, tells homeowners to protect the house from more damage, keep the receipts, and photograph what the storm did.

Storm damage: the first four answers

What homeowners ask us first, while the wind is still blowing.

What should I do first after storm damage to my roof?

Call your insurance company and Lifetime Construction Builders at (616) 360-2522. A real person answers 24/7, and a crew comes out the same day, within a few hours, to tarp the damage. Michigan's insurance department, DIFS, also tells homeowners to photograph the damage and keep their receipts.

Does homeowners insurance cover storm damage to a roof?

Often, when a covered storm caused it, but your policy and your adjuster decide. Lifetime Construction Builders photographs the damage during a free inspection and helps with the claim at no extra cost. When insurance covers the work, you pay only your deductible.

How fast can you get to my house after a storm?

The same day, within a few hours. A real person answers the Lifetime Construction Builders line 24/7, and the crew usually spends 1 to 3 hours on site securing a tarp over the damage. Most emergency tarps cost $350 to $950.

Will the price go up after you give me an estimate?

No. Lifetime Construction Builders puts the price in a written estimate after the free inspection, and that price doesn't change. Financing available, ask Luis. Military customers get 5% off.

What our customers wrote on Google

A roofer who goes quiet after a problem, or never calls back, is the complaint we read most in West Michigan roofing reviews. Here's what our own customers wrote about the call, the crew, and the finished roof. We're rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google.

We had Lifetime Construction Builders replace our entire roof last month after the winter storm damage, and I couldn't be happier with the results. … The crew showed up on time every day, protected our landscaping with tarps, and finished the job in just two days.
Brian S. Google review, January 2026
“The whole process beginning to end was SO quick and easy. Luis (regional manager) was with us every step of the way, answered any questions we had, and took care of the whole process. … They also were super quick, we had a new roof within a couple of days!”
Sophia H. Google review, July 2025
“Good solid company. Fair price, showed up when they said they would, got the job done. Had some leak issues around the chimney flashing and they came out same week to fix it. No complaints.”
Sandra M. Google review, January 2026
“Lifetime Construction Builders has completed three distinct roofing projects for me, all of the highest quality. The team is excellent at their tasks, always on time, communicative, and responsive to phone calls while solving problems. I would strongly recommend them.”
Clark R. Google review, July 2023

From the first call to the nail sweep

Every storm damage job runs the same six steps. From the inspection on, Luis, our regional manager, is your contact and picks up your calls.

  1. A real person answers, day or night

Call (616) 360-2522. The line is answered 24/7, so a storm at 2 a.m. gets the same answer as one at noon. Tell us your town and what you can see from the ground.

  2. A tarp goes on the same day

A crew comes out the same day, within a few hours, and usually spends 1 to 3 hours on site securing the tarp. Most emergency tarps cost $350 to $950, a whole slope $1,200 to $2,500, and the crew takes photos for your insurance claim.

  4. A written estimate and help with the claim

You get a written estimate your adjuster can read, and we meet the adjuster on the roof. Claim help costs nothing extra, and when insurance covers the work, you pay only your deductible. The claim moves at your insurer's pace.

  5. Repair or replacement

Most storm repairs take one day. When the claim approves a full replacement, the old roof comes off and the new one goes on in 1 to 2 days, with ice-and-water shield from the eaves to 24 inches inside the wall line, as Michigan code R905.2.7.1 requires.

More storm damage questions

Insurance, warranties, winter, and cost: what homeowners ask once the tarp is on. Anything else, ask on the phone.

A person answers 24/7(616) 360-2522
What does an insurance adjuster look for on a storm-damaged roof?

Damage they can see and measure: creased, lifted, or missing shingles, hail bruises and granule loss, and dents in vents, gutters, and flashing. Lifetime Construction Builders photographs what it finds during the free inspection, writes an estimate your adjuster can read, and meets the adjuster on the roof.

Can hail damage on a roof be repaired?

Often, yes. A few hail-damaged shingles can be replaced in one day, and Lifetime Construction Builders charges $500 to $3,000 for most storm repairs paid in cash. When the hits cover whole slopes, the adjuster may approve a new roof instead. The free inspection shows which, with photos.

What if my insurance approves only a repair?

Ask for the adjuster's written scope and compare it with your inspection photos. Michigan fire policies carry an appraisal clause for disagreements over the amount, and DIFS answers questions at 877-999-6442. Lifetime Construction Builders does either job: most storm repairs take one day, and a replacement 1 to 2 days.

How long do I have to file a roof insurance claim in Michigan?

Report the damage as soon as you find it, because your policy sets the notice terms. Michigan law gives you at least 1 year after the loss to sue, and that clock stops from the day you report it until the insurer formally denies it. Lifetime Construction Builders' free inspection gives you dated photos to send in.

How do I check out a roofer after a storm?

Ask for the Michigan license number, check it with LARA, and get the price in writing. If you sign with a door-to-door seller, Michigan law lets you cancel until midnight of the third business day. Lifetime Construction Builders holds Michigan license 252400088 and has its office at 605 56th Street in Pullman.

Does the shingle warranty cover hail or tornado damage?

No. The Atlas shingle warranty excludes hail, tornadoes, and wind above its stated limit, so storm damage goes through your homeowners insurance. Lifetime Construction Builders is an Atlas Preferred Contractor, and our lifetime transferable warranty covers the work we do.

What if my roof leaks again after the repair?

Call the same number, (616) 360-2522, any time; a real person answers 24/7. Lifetime Construction Builders backs every storm repair with its lifetime transferable warranty, and new materials also carry the maker's product warranty.

Can you repair storm damage in the winter?

Yes. Lifetime Construction Builders tarps storm damage the same day in any season. Below about 40°F, we hand-seal each asphalt shingle, because the factory seal strips need warmth to set. Heavy snow cover can push back an inspection, since we need to see the shingles to judge them.

Who do I call with questions while my claim is open?

Luis, the Lifetime Construction Builders regional manager in Michigan. He's your contact from the free inspection to the final cleanup, and the office line, (616) 360-2522, is answered 24/7. Claim timing depends on your insurer; Michigan law gives insurers 30 days to say what proof of loss they need.

How much does storm damage roof repair cost?

Most storm repairs paid in cash cost $500 to $3,000 with Lifetime Construction Builders. On an insured claim, we work at the adjuster's approved scope and you pay your deductible. A full storm replacement runs $11,000 to $22,000 on most homes, depending on the damage, your roof type, and the approved scope.
